Chemdawg Biology & History
Legendary strain Chemdawg has a murky genetic background. Many claim to have created this strain, while it is believed to have originated from U.S. breeders who crossed Thai and Nepalese sativa landraces. One of the origin myths for Chemdawg describes a convoluted seed exchange between other growers at a Grateful Dead concert. Another origin story attributes the strain’s ancestry to a Colorado strain known as Dog Bud (so named for its tendency to make the smoker roll over like a dog).
Whatever its origins, Chemdawg has established itself as a standard in the American cannabis industry thanks to its distinct flavor and uplifting, energizing high. Additionally, it has been used to crossbreed a number of profitable and well-known breeds. THC levels for Chemdawg have been found to range from 15% to 20%.
Aesthetics, aroma, and flavor
Medium-sized buds on Chemdawg have a slightly distinct appearance than those on hybrid or pure indica strains. The blooms feature leaves that are rather loose and airy, rather than being long and tapering like popcorn. The sticky white trichomes on the spring green leaves give the buds a silver-white look.
Chemdawg buds are particularly tough to break up by hand due to their loose structure and resinous texture; users who are preparing flowers for joints or pipes will find it easier with a grinder. Red to orange pistils are laced through the sticky blooms. Diesel gasoline is said by some to be the source of the “chem” in Chemdawg’s name because of the smell it has. The smells of earthy musk and some pine can also be detected in the fragrant blossoms.
When flowers are properly cured, this strain produces smooth smoke with a sour flavor that is inhaled. When exhaled, chemdawg 91 smoke reveals its distinctive diesel flavor. This is by giving off an ammonia-like tang that reaches the palate’s top.
The Chemdawg high comes on rapidly, often even before users have had time to fully enjoy the substance’s characteristic diesel aroma. The senses may become more acute, and smokers may become more hyperaware of their environment. When the conditions are appropriate, this first dizzying head high becomes more cerebral and contemplative. Chemdawg 91 can support a lively discussion.
It is especially beneficial for artistic efforts because of its capacity to heighten sensory sensations. Many users claim to feel physically relaxed, though not to the point of couchlock. But this has led to some conjecture that Chemdawg may also include some indica genes. Chemdawg is useful in alleviating some of the symptoms of stress, anxiety, and even PTSD because of its potent cerebral high. Some supporters of the strain mention alleviation from migraines and chronic pain.
Chemdawg has the ability to produce paranoia due to its potency and mental focus. Because of this, even THC users with a strong tolerance are recommended to moderate their intake.
